Introducing the center:

The Research Center for Social determinant of health of Kashan University of Medical Sciences was founded in 2013 through the formation of the founding board. They established the center in response to the Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education's announcement regarding the significance of studying social determinants of health and the necessity for research and education in this field. The center's research council was a multi-departmental group of professors and researchers from Kashan University of Medical Sciences, Kashan University, and Kashan Municipality,  formed with the cooperation of other organizations. The council approved funding the students' branch and defined its activities. The council determined the center's priorities and areas of activity immediately after its formation and conducted activities in guiding and accepting areas of research projects, interdepartmental cooperation, social interventions, and educational programs.

Mission:

In line with its perspective, the Research Center for Social Factors Affecting Health at Kashan University of Medical Sciences has the following missions:

A- To provide leadership and facilitate the implementation of applied-developmental research and the production of science in the domain of social determinants of health, with the ultimate goal of achieving justice in the field of health

B- Communication and cooperation with other institutions and organizations involved in the field of health, particularly universities located in the university area

C- The identification of social factors that impact health and the formulation of effective interventions in this field

D- The dissemination and expansion of knowledge about the social determinants of health and justice in health

E-Empowering the audience (city managers, general society, and academics) in the field of life with security, welfare, and social health

F- Measure social inequality in the general population and stimulate managers and executives by conducting scientific and applied research.

G- Utilizing the available resources and supporting and training researchers

Perspective:

This center aims to increase our country's contribution to science production and to play an influential role in providing, maintaining, and improving public health. This perspective is accomplished by conducting applied research on social factors affecting health and emphasizing the principle of justice in health and human dignity. Moreover, it measures the inequality of significant and related health indicators with social factors and makes necessary interventions based on the measurement data related to inequality.

Under the principles of excellence and dynamism, we want the researchers and members of the center to achieve such a high level of capability to be among the most proficient researchers in the country. In addition, we aim to be known as the top health center in the country.

3- Emphasis on continuous improvement of the quantity and quality of related research

4- Focusing on group research and teamwork to improve the spirit of collective participation and cooperation and to sensitize managers and executives regarding existing inequalities in health.

5- Supporting vulnerable groups in society with an approach to social justice in health and reducing inequalities in health

Research priorities:

1- Investigating the underlying causes of psychological, behavioral, and social abnormalities and risky behaviors of different groups of society

2- Abuse of drugs, medicines, psychedelics, and tobacco

3- Healthy lifestyle (physical activity, nutrition, stress, and smoking)

4- Investigating the environmental damage caused by infectious and tropical diseases

5- Examining injuries  resulting from occupational diseases

6- Investigation of incidents and accidents

7- Examining strategies and solutions to encourage people to participate in the implementation of new population policies

8- Investigating the prevalence of social harms affecting health in the area

General objectives:

1- Non-communicable diseases with a particular emphasis on cancer, MS, accidents and incidents, and cardiovascular diseases

2- The role of social determinants affecting health in the fields of mental health and addiction, fertility, and population protection

3- Investigation of the environmental damage caused by infectious and tropical diseases
